OPERA OMAHA ONE FESTIVAL
"...lived up to all the talk of innovation and risk taking..." — Musical America
Opera Omaha, Nebraska’s sole professional opera company, celebrated its 60th anniversary season with the launch of ONE Festival (derived from Omaha, NE) in April 2018. Expanding Opera Omaha’s commitment to innovative work, the inaugural ONE Festival, led by General Director Roger Weitz and Festival Artistic Director James Darrah, included over fifty multi-disciplinary performances, installations, conversations and explorations of the operatic form.
The inaugural Festival was anchored by two premiere productions—Luigi Cherubini’s Medea and the fully-produced performances of Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek's world premiere opera, Proving Up—and surrounded by three multidisciplinary presentations: unconventional takes on both Handel’s Ariodante and John Adams’ The Dharma at Big Sur and Annie Saunders’ new on-site creation, The Wreck. www.onefestivalomaha.org
